We are delighted to announce that one of our wines won a gold medal in the 2012 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition (HKIWSC), one of the largest pan-Asian wine and spirit competitions of its kind.
The Cathay Pacific HKIWSC has one simple objective: to recognise and reward the best wines and spirits for the Asian market. With 25 judges coming from all corners of the region for the judging in Hong Kong, the HKIWSC awards are truly suited to the taste preferences of Asia.
The HKIWSC operates to the highest global standards in judging, product storage and result integrity. The competition was chaired by Debra Meiburg MW, one of Asia’s first Masters of Wine. In addition this year the HKIWSC welcomed Karen MacNeil from the US, a pre-eminent wine educator, consultant and author of The Wine Bible as a guest VIP judge. In another new innovation, Dr. Bill Lumsden of Head of Distilling & Whisky Creation at The Glenmorangie Company became the competition’s first guest VIP spirits judge.
Each year, the HKIWSC looks to ensure it is the competition that most accurately reflects Asian taste preferences. This year the competition expanded the dishes covered by food and wine matching categories to include signature Indian and Thai in addition to Chinese and Japanese dishes.
Debra Meiburg MW, HKIWSC director commented: “A medal win in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition helps wineries and distilleries set themselves apart in this exciting, competitive market.”
